Dear Colleagues,
We have begun another school year for our students in the state of Washington. I am certain that many of our districts find themselves with a larger ethnically and racially diverse student population than previous years. Our schools are being asked to redefine and restructure themselves to provide education to this diverse population in a time of “high-stakes testing” and other challenging mandates. As teachers and other educational personnel strive to provide the high quality education that all students deserve, many find that they are inadequately prepared to respond to the broad range of needs in their classrooms.
I have developed a series of workshops on Cultural Competency and the 2nd Module on Culturally-Responsive Teaching is now being offered. I term Cultural Competency as “the new skill for the 21st century.” The response was outstanding to 3 previous offerings of the 1st Module, which was a general overview of Cultural Competency. The enclosed brochure describes my next offering on Culturally-Responsive Teaching. Please distribute to your staff and colleagues.
Future Modules will include the following:
e Culturally-Inclusive Curriculum & Instruction e Working Effectively with African American Students & Their Families e Achieving a Diverse Workforce Through Culturally-Inclusive Personnel Practices e Culturally-Relevant Parental & Community Involvement
A biographical summary is posted on my website if you are interested in my background and experience. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
Thelma A. Jackson, Ed.D. |
